The activation process

Activate your account
After a few days you will receive your validation code through the post from the IR - if it hasn't arrived within a week you will need to phone them (see details on the registration page).

You get two documents - one is your Government Gateway userid card the other is your activation code. The activation code must be used within 28 days.

Revisit https://online.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/index.jsp and login using your userid from the card. The password is the one you originally chose not the validation code. Immediately after logging in you will see a box for your validation code (it is not case sensitive) and a button to submit it. Do that and you are ready to go. Here is how to log in.

N.B. The IR have an annoying habit of moving their web pages around. We intend to maintain the links we include but you may get a duff one. If you do please contact us to let us know and we will correct it. If you are feeling particularly brave and get a duff link a good place to start on the IR webshite is "online filing" in the search - be prepared to waste a bit of time finding the correct information though.
